Social Media News Release

Social Media News Releases are news releases that are meant for online viewing. They are not just meant for journalist but for bloggers, and others viewing the release. It is also formatted differently because of being online.

Some of the advantages of Social media news releases are that the content can be administered to a lot more people. Not that many people to do read the newspaper anymore. Most people get their news from the internet. So a lot more people would see the news release if it was online. Other advantages of social media news releases are the use of the interactive properties. Like links and tags. The writer of the news release can also add graphics much easier like pictures or videos. Another advantage to smnr’s is that others can share the story through popular sites like Facebook, Twitter and others. This allows for even more exposure. There are not many disadvantages to social media news releases. The one disadvantage that I could think of was that maybe the people that do not use the internet to get their information would not see this. This is not really much of a disadvantage though because the majority of people do, so there would not be much of a loss. The main concept the writer has to remember is that content is still the main focus, and should not be drowned out by other graphics or videos.

A PR practitioner should consider using a social media news release when the subject needs maximum exposure. Also if the story needs to be put out very quickly because the writer does not have to wait for the journalist to write the story for the newspaper. Anything that gets put onto the internet spreads like wild fire. It is a very easy way to get things out quickly and allow for more people to see it.

The purpose of my social media news release is to to inform others of Eagle Entertainment’s upcoming Late night bowling event. The goal of the smnr is to get as many students as possible to participate in the event. The target audience for this smnr is the student body of Georgia Southern University. This is why it is very important to use a smnr for this event because students mainly get their news from online. Others can share it on Facebook and everyone will know about it.

Some Tops for Social media news release creation are as follows:

1.) Bullet point-style news that cut to the point rather than wordy, spin-filled paragraphs

2.) Focus on content, not graphics

3.) Know when and when not to use a social media news release

4.) Use the right tags, so that people can find your smnr

5.) Use graphics strategically, but not over crowding, but helping to better explain the smnr

I first started Twitter when I started the extra credit assignment for Mrs. Groover’s class. I couldn’t believe that I had a Twitter because I have always made fun of Twitter and thought that it was pointless other than keeping up with celebrity drama. I also did not see much of a point because all of my friends have Facebook, so why would I use Twitter when no on would see it. Now I think that it is important because I can see the benefits that come from Twitter. On a daily basis I do usually just look at a few celebrities that I have added. I usually only Tweet myself if I am made to for school, but for the future I am going to try to twitter more on a daily basis, now that I have more followers because of this assignment. I think that it will help me further my career in Public Relations because it makes you and your clients and your audience that much closer. It gives others a way of communicating with you on a more personal level and allows them to feel closer to you and more important.

I think that it is very important to continue with my Twitter account because I need to get better and better about doing it. I need to make it where it is a habit to Tweet things. Social media is booming right now and will only get more popular so everyone needs to become more savvy with it because eventually the younger generation will be more knowledgeable than we are. Now that I have more followers, I am excited about Tweeting more and becoming more familiar with Twitter. I think that it is something that is still relatively new and is only going to get better and better.

My favorite movie…

This is such a hard question for me because I love so many movies. I have like hundreds of vhs’ and dvd’s. My room has shelves and shelves of them. I guess some of my favorites are Titanic, silence of the lambs, harry potter (1-7), amittyville horror (the old one), and nightmare on elm st (the old one), inception, shutter island, fight club, little monsters, and troy. These aren’t in any particular order. I like all types of movies, but my favorite are horror movies. Me and my friend used to go every weekend and pick out scary movies. They usually were terrible but you would always find that one that you loved. In all of these movies, I would say that the story line and characters captivated me.

I’ve seen a few movies this summer. Ive seen bad teacher. This movie was pretty good. It was weird seeing Cameron Diaz being so bad. She smoked weed, had sex, stole money. There wasn’t much she didn’t do. It had it’s funny parts, but I wouldn’t say it was the greatest. I also saw Horrible Bosses which was hilarious; it was so funny. I was laughing out loud a lot in this movie. It was hard not too. They had so many funny actors and great situations. The last movie that I saw was Harry Potter 7. It was so good. I think it was done better than any of the other ones. It actually had a lot of detail from the book, which has been missing from the other movies. I guess this is because they used two parts, so they could fit in more detail. I think that everything was done good and I was very entertained.

Role Models

I don’t know if I really have a specific role model. I look up to a lot of people. I would say that I look up to a certain way of living, rather than a specific person. I look up to characteristics like someone that has a lot of thoughtfulness. Like they open doors for people, help people out anytime they can. I also look up to people who are humble. I think that it is something that is so important, because no matter how much money yo have or who you are, you should still be humble and treat people with respect. There are a lot of things that I know I need to work on like, having more patients, or not getting mad so quickly. So I know that I need to find people that have these qualities and try to be like them.

The Media is Wrong

I do believe that media plays a specific role in how someone feels about themselves physically. To be honest I think that we get almost all of the way we think about ourselves from the media. This is what we see the most and this is what we expect regular people should look like. Even though they would not look like that if it they didn’t have the money to keep it up. They are able to get surgeries and the best stylist to make them look the way they do. I am sometimes guilty of getting the way I should look from celebrities.

I do not think that we should listen to what the media tells us. This just makes us feel horrible about the way we look. I don’t think that we should be stick skinny and have super expensive clothes.

I think from a public relations stand point that we should start having campaigns about natural beauty. Maybe have some celebrities wear no make up or something like that. I know a couple years ago, Tyra Banks decided not to wear fake hair and to only wear her natural hair. This made others want to do that too.

The Evolution of Technology

Technology definitely has changed so much over the years. There has even been significant changes in our generation. Some of the most significant changes that I can think of are the sizes of things. I remember when I was a kid, cell phones used to be like the size of bricks. Now they have cell phones that are so tiny and thin; you can put it in your pocket and not even know it is there. Computers have also changed drastically. I remember the first computer my family had, it was so bulky and ugly, and there really wasn’t much to do on it. Also the internet was so slow that you couldn’t get anywhere. The same thing happened to TV’s. They used to be so bulk, but now they are so razor thin. The things that I think will change in the future are that I think instead of having a frame around the TV, there will just be a projection. This will eliminate not having room for a TV, and it will make it super easy to move. I think that phones will continue to get smaller and thinner to the point where we will have to have a chip and we can answer calls and surf the internet just by thinking about it. The things that I think will stay the same are not much. I think that everything will change.

This Semester

This semester has been the hardest semester of my life. I have had so much work to do it is ridiculous. Like right now i have two 15 page papers a two papers due for journalism and finals and everything else. to say im stressed would be a understatement. I really just want to fast forward to summer.

I changed my major to public relations this semester so i was pretty excited to take the intro class to see what it was all about. I really enjoyed this class because it was about something i wanted to learn about. I wish all of my classes were like this one. So i would say this was a high in this semester.

For the low of the semester i would say that it would be having to take general semantics. It is the worst class i have ever taken because it is soooooo stupid.
